LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Scottsville, Kentucky, man is in custody, charged with murder, after authorities say he shot and killed his girlfriend Monday night.

According to an arrest report, it happened on at a home on W. Wood Street in Scottsville, just before 5:30 p.m.

The Allen County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Ethan Reid pulled his car up to the home, blocking the porch steps, and walked into the house, armed with a shotgun.

His girlfriend, 20-year-old Kayla Hodges, was inside the home, according to the arrest report.

Authorities say he found his girlfriend's mother inside and shoved her out the back door. According to the arrest report, she ran back in, got a child, and was shoved against the wall by Reid.

Reid then found his girlfriend, Hodges, and followed her to the front door.

According to the arrest report, Hodges' mom says she heard a "loud pop" and saw Hodges fall out the front door, with Reid standing nearby with the gun.

Hodges' mom allegedly told police that Reid then made a comment to his mother about killing himself, then walked out with the gun.

At about this time, authorities say a neighbor subdued Reid and held him down until the sheriff's department arrived.

According to a news release, Hodges was taken to the hospital, where she later died from a gunshot wound.

Reid was also taken to the hospital with a head injury. He was eventually arrested and charged with murder. He is currently being held at the Allen County Detention Center.
