LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A long-term ramp closure is expected to end this week as crews with Walsh Construction continue to make progress on the Downtown Crossing portion of the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project.

According to a news release, the ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday. It has been closed since December 2015. During the closure, the old ramp was demolished and a new ramp was built. Around 8,400 drivers use the ramp on a daily basis.

More Ramps to Soon Reopen
The Kennedy Bridge is expected to reopen to southbound traffic early next week. The Kennedy Bridge is scheduled to carry southbound traffic by early Monday, October 10.

When the Kennedy opens to southbound traffic, the ramps from I-65 South to I-64 East and I-71 North will reopen. The ramps have been closed since January 2016. More than 22,000 drivers use the two ramps on a daily basis.

Ramp from I-65 South to I-64 West to Remain Closed
While direct access from I-65 South to I-64 East and I-71 North will be restored when the Kennedy opens to southbound traffic, the ramp from I-65 South to I-64 West will remain closed for a few more weeks. Crews planned to reopen the ramp when the Kennedy reopened, but have additional work to do in the area.

The ramp is expected to reopen in November. Around 5,500 drivers use the ramp each day.
