LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – You could almost understand if Christian Academy head football coach Stefan Lefors would be okay with a loss Friday night against rival DeSales. Each season since 2012, CAL has won the regular season matchup and then lost the rematch in the playoffs.
“The fact that we’ve won district championships but they’ve gone on and won playoff games and then gone on to win two state championships in the last five or six years, it just adds a little more salt to the wound,” Lefors said.
Lefors says even though the Centurions are “the new kids” on the block and that DeSales has been around for much longer, the rivalry is strong despite its relative recency.
“The last few years, it’s really turned into something special,” said DeSales head coach Harold Davis. “The last time DeSales won the district was probably six years ago, so we need to attain that goal finally.”
A win Friday night at the home of the Colts would go a long way. After Friday’s game, both teams will finish out the schedule against three teams that have a combined three wins.
