Ramp from EB I-64 to NB I-65 and the Lincoln Bridge reopens

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A key ramp in downtown Louisville has reopened following a ten-month construction project.

The ramp from eastbound Interstate 64 to northbound Interstate 65 and the Lincoln Bridge reopened about an hour late Thursday morning.  Project officials had promised it would reopen by 5 a.m., but it was much closer to 6 a.m. before drivers were able to take the ramp.

The ramp had been closed since December.  But the reopening gives eastbound I-64 drivers a more direct route into southern Indiana.

The Ohio River Bridges Project is close to completing the Downtown Crossing.  Ramps are opening almost weekly, and everything should be done by the end of the year.

The Kennedy Bridge is expected to reopen to southbound traffic early next week. The Kennedy Bridge is scheduled to carry southbound traffic by early Monday, October 10.

When the Kennedy opens to southbound traffic, the ramps from I-65 South to I-64 East and I-71 North will reopen. The ramps have been closed since January 2016. More than 22,000 drivers use the two ramps on a daily basis.
