With suspect still on the loose, family seeks closure after fatal hit-and-run in Fairdale

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- He ran over a 15-year old boy and kept going, and LMPD now have new information about the driver in a recent fatal hit-and-run.

It has been nearly a week, and the suspect is still on the loose. LMPD believes they now know what kind of car the suspect was driving.

And the victim's family hopes that new information leads to an arrest.

"Somebody out there probably does know the person who has done this," said Jesse Monroe, the victim's uncle.

Monroe hopes that "somebody" is watching. It has been nearly a week, and the driver who killed his nephew is still missing or hiding.

"There's probably some factors that are involved," Monroe said. "Maybe they were intoxicated or whatever, but ... they've killed a kid."

It happened last Friday night on Glengarry Drive in Fairdale. Trey Monroe-Royce, 15, was hit and later died.

"He is obviously going to be missed by the family and meeting some of the kids that knew him," Monroe said. "I know he is going to be missed by them."

Monroe also said it is the second big loss for Trey's mother in the last few years.

"Trey's dad, which was her husband, died of a heart attack in January of 2015."

Meanwhile, LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the case.

"We do have a vehicle that we are looking for," said Sgt. William Patterson with the traffic unit. "The way we come up with that is some of the vehicle parts that were left at the scene."

Sgt. Patterson said detectives have been able to zero in on the make and model of the suspect's car.

"We are looking for a 2010 to 2012 Mazda CX-7. According to one of our witnesses, it was dark in color."

Police are circulating a flyer, hoping someone can help them find the car and driver.

"We are trying to, not only wrap up our investigation, but also bring closure to this family," Sgt. Patterson said.

A makeshift memorial of flowers and handwritten notes at the scene are heartwarming to Trey's family, but only an arrest will give them closure.

"When that person is caught or comes forward, and he has to answer for what he did, that'll end of closing that chapter on that book," Monroe said. "So there will be a little bit of relief for that."

If you have any information about the suspect or the car, you can call LMPD's anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD. Trey's funeral will be held on this coming Saturday.
