Ethics complaint filed against Louisville Metro Council democrats over alleged 'electioneering' for Hillary Clinton

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Did Hillary Clinton get an unfair campaign platform during a Louisville Metro council meeting? The head of Jefferson County's Republican Party thinks so.

Chairman Jim Stansbury has filed an ethics complaint against Metro Council democrats, accusing them of electioneering at City Hall.

Last month, Hillary Clinton campaign staffers solicited support during an official meeting of council Democrats. Republicans believe that's a violation of the city's ethics rules against campaigning on public property.

"It just seems like that's an inappropriate use of public spaces, paid for by all tax payers dollars," said Jim Stansbury, the Jefferson County GOP Chairman.

"At the present time, we have suspended any candidate or any political person who has come to the caucus until we get the opinion to tell us whether or not to move forward," said Tony Hyatt, spokesman for Louisville Metro Council.

Council democrats say they asked the Ethics Commission to issue an opinion on the controversy three weeks ago.
