Memorial ride to be held for tow truck driver hit and killed on Dixie Highway
So far, 50 tow companies have committed to take part in the memorial.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Slow down and move over. That's the message tow truck drivers want to get across.
They're spreading the word during a memorial ride on Saturday.
A van hit and killed tow truck driver Steve Simpson on Monday night as he loaded a vehicle onto a wrecker along Dixie Highway. Police say he died at the scene.
To send a message about the dangers of the job, one of his friends and fellow drivers organized a memorial ride. "When people see a line of tow trucks that's us trying to get a point proven to slow down and move over," said Justin Gordon, an organizer for the memorial.
So far, 50 tow companies have committed to take part.
The drivers will start at the Ohio Valley Raceway at 10 a.m. and end at Hager Funeral Home for Simpson's service, which has a scheduled start time of 2 p.m.
