LMPD conducting homicide investigation near Oxmoor Mall

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Police Homicide Unit is investigating after a woman's body was discovered on a sidewalk not far from Oxmoor Mall.

LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley says the woman was found dead around 6 a.m. in the 7400 block of New La Grange Road near Shelbyville Road.

Smiley says the victim is believed to be a white female in her 30s. Foul play is suspected.

Police are trying to determine if the woman was a resident of the area where she was found.

A number of detectives and the LMPD Crime Scene Truck spent much of Saturday at a home on New La Grange Road -- not far from where the body was found. Forensic investigators were seen coming and going from the house.

Steve Robertaccio lives next door to the home police were investigating. He said a man and woman lived in the home, but he didn't know them well -- saying they often kept to themselves.

"I don't know if there was a domestic problem, maybe there was a scuffle?" Robertaccio said. "It's a little weird for sure. Nothing like this ever happens around here."

Other neighbors added not knowing what exactly happened is unsettling.

"I can't imagine things like that happening in this area of town. Not that it should happen any place, but the fact is that this is really a quiet area," Jean Morehead said.

Investigators have not released any information about a suspect.

If you have any information in this case, call police at 574-LMPD.
