LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was a big day for thousands of athletes competing in the Ironman triathlon Sunday.

About 3,000 men and women were up for the challenge this year.

The course took competitors on a two-mile swim in the Ohio River, then a 112-mile bike ride.

Finally, the course finished with a full 26-point-two mile marathon run.

Lots of proud family and friends cheered on their loved ones.

"So we just follow her. Her kids are here, her husband is down a ways. He's in charge of taking pictures. I'm in charge of the kids.   So she's having a great time. We're excited for her," Carol Greenlee said.

Tyler Le Roy crossed the finished line first with a time of  nine hours, one minute, and 17 seconds.

And for the women, Kirsten Sass was the first to finish in nine hours, 46 minutes, and 24 seconds.
