Bowman Field holds first ever Aviation Heritage Festival

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was a chance to see rare, vintage aircraft from all over the United States.

The first ever Bowman Field Aviation Heritage Festival was held this weekend.

It featured more than 30 vintage planes.

You could even take a ride in some of the aircraft.

The festival paid tribute to the aviation community and Bowman Field, which turns 100 in 2020.

"Actually in the 1930's on any given Sunday there'd be about 10,000 people out here watching planes take off from Bowman as an entertainment value so we're just bringing that nostalgia back," organizer Tisha Gainey said.

Organizers say Bowman is the first commercial operating airport and oldest continual operating airport in America.
