UPDATE: Officials release name of murder victim found shot in vehicle on Blevins Gap Road
Louisville Metro Police are investigating a shooting on Blevins Gap Road.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities have released the name of the person who died after being found shot inside a vehicle on Blevins Gap Road at East Orell Road.
The victim was 58-year-old David House, according to Deputy Coroner Eddie Robinson.
LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell says around 10 p.m. Monday officers responded to a call of a shooting in the parking lot of the Deal Master Food Mart on Blevins Gap Road.
When officers arrived, they found House inside a vehicle. He was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:50 p.m. The cause of death was a gunshot wound, according to the coroner.
Surveillance cameras line the outside of the convenience store. An employee at the store said he could not release the video, but described what was captured on it. He said someone shot House then got in another car and drove off. He said there was no physical fight before the shooting. The employee said they are cooperating with the police investigation and that nothing like this has ever happened at the store before.
A spokesperson for LMPD said officers are aware of the surveillance video, but the spokesperson was not sure if the footage had been processed.
People who live nearby and visit the store often said they were shocked to hear the news. But many also described the area as a bad neighborhood.
One woman, who wished to remain anonymous said, "It's not safe around here no more." She moved away two years ago. "You can't even step out your door without somebody shooting or something. So this makes me nervous," she said.
An autopsy for House is scheduled to take place Tuesday.
The LMPD Homicide Unit is investigating. No arrests have been made.
The fatal shooting marks Louisville's 90th murder of 2016.
