LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A La Grange man is in jail after police say he was involved in a road rage incident that degenerated into hand-to-hand combat with one of his victims.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place just after 5:30 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of I-71 near the La Grange exit.

Police say they were sent to that location after a man and his wife reported that they were traveling on the interstate when a man driving another vehicle began threatening them with a large hunting knife, "making stabbing motions."

Kyle White, one of the victims, says he wrestled the knife away from the suspect and held him until officers arrived.

“When the officer had pulled up, I had had him unconscious in a choke hold. Standing choke hold. We were facing the officers,” White said.

According to the arrest report, both vehicles got off at the La Grange exit, and the suspect, 27-year-old Brett Rees, got out of his car with the knife and walked back to the victims' vehicle.

That's when, police say, the husband jumped out of his car and engaged in "hand-to-hand" combat with Rees, eventually disarming him and holding him down until police arrived.

Rees was arrested by La Grange Police and charged with first degree wanton endangerment, terroristic threatening and menacing. He is currently being held in the Oldham County Detention Center.
