Kentucky grocery shoppers helping domestic violence victims

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Grocery shoppers across the Kentucky have once again stepped up to help victims of domestic violence.

Governor Matt Bevin and First Lady Glenna Bevin announced the results of the 8th annual "Shop and Share" event.

Shoppers are asked to pick up extra items from stores to donate to domestic violence shelters.

This year, the event raised more than $541,000 in food, supplies and cash.

"This is to give people the opportunity to do what is right for themselves, for their children, and frankly, for society as a whole -- to be in healthy situations," said Gov. Bevin.

The governor also declared October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
