LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Union workers at Jim Beam plan to strike starting at midnight on Friday.

Even after help from a federal mediator, more than 90 percent of the union voted to reject the company's proposed contract.

The union says it is open to meeting with Beam Suntory before the contract expires tonight. A representative from Beam Suntory says it hopes to have positive news about negotiations in the near future.

Japanese company Suntory Holdings acquired Jim Beam in 2014, as part of a $16 billion deal.
