Only USPS post office in Kentucky made just for local businesses gets a facelift

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -

The only United States Post Office in Kentucky made just for local businesses got a facelift.

The Louisville Business Mail Entry Unit makes it easy for business to quickly ship a lot of mail at once.

“We bring our mail over here if our client needs us to do it quickly, and we have to meet a deadline,” said Diane Fischer, president of L & D Mail Master. “A customer may call us at 3:00 today and have us do a mailing, and we have to bring it over here and have it ready to go by 5:00."

Fischer is one of many loyal customers at the Louisville Business Mail Entry Unit. That's why The United States Postal Service invited her to the grand re-opening ribbon cutting Friday morning.

“This has totally been revamped,” said Alisa Zanetti, marketing manager of the United States Postal Service.

The improvement include a new service counter, new paint on the walls, new technology, new employee uniforms and a new business conference space.

When the facility on Crittenden Drive near the airport started operations, the counter space wasn't very efficient for a post office that handles 422 million pieces of mail each year.

“When we first opened this facility four years ago, we had cardboard doors and hodgepodge furniture,” Zanetti said.

Last fiscal year, the facility made $196 million in revenue.

USPS predicted Louisville would be a successful location for a Business Solution Center, and it was right.

“There's only about ten of these in the country, so Louisville was selected as a site based on our revenue and the economic growth that we're seeing right here in our community,” Zanetti said.
