LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's an energy packed scene that starts the season for the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team.

Big Blue Madness took over Rupp Arena on Friday night to kick off the college basketball season.

It was a Hollywood feel before you got the hardwood. Big Blue Madness saw local media posing as the paparazzi. on the "blue carpet."

"Oh this is SO much better. Oh my gosh!" actor Steve Zahn said.

John wall, a former UK star and current point guard for the Washington Wizards, was impressed by all the upgrades inside Rupp Arena.

"This school is always adding something new to it," he said. "It's a big basketball town and gets no better than this. I hope all my friends and my teammates that I brought enjoy."

Before the wild crowd of screaming students and shouting supporters got to their seats, they had to go through an airport style security check.

This was the first UK basketball event where fans walked through metal detectors which are now required by the NHL and NBA. Rupp Arena is now on that list.

"It's a small sacrifice to make for security," Gary Schaeffer said. "I don't see any reason why we shouldn't do it."

A strict bag policy was also enforced. Students no longer can bring backpacks into Rupp Arena.

But they didn't need their books tonight, they were having too much fun at Big Blue Madness.
