Louisville business owner delivers bubbles, smiles

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One business owner is making a living driving around and making people smile.

Most can spot the four wheels covered in bright yellow and its glistening bubbles, anywhere. "I generate anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000 per minute on a good day with no wind," Mark Cocke said, Owner of TheBubbleBug.

Soapy balloons have been making their way around town for a few years after the man behind them, decided it was time to work for himself. "I was getting ready for a Sunday school lesson with some little kids I was teaching at my church and I fell asleep on my bible thinking what would be fun. It actually came to me in a dream," Cocke said.

His idea was mobile bubble parties. Cocke transformed his own car into TheBubbleBug. "I'll never be finished with it. There will always be something I find to put on it or something new to add to it."

It attracts its fair share of attention at birthday, corporate parties and events. "Some of them, their reaction is priceless."

Getting there with out turning heads is another story. "I thought that is so cool! I've never seen a car that blew bubbles before. that's neat," Pauline Dugard said.

"It puts people in a better mood I think. I'll get stuck in traffic and I'll see people behind me that are grumpy, they're hitting their horn waiting to get out of traffic. I'll turn the bubbles on and their whole attitude changes. 'Oh, wow, look, hey guys, that over there!' It makes me feel good to make people happy."

Making people happy is Cocke's full-time job. "It's blessed me more than I could say," Cocke said. "Seeing kids faces light up when I turn the bubbles on."

The navy veteran turned TheBubbleBug pilot isn't sure how long he'll continue his unique craft. "As long as God will let me," Cocke said. "I've been told I bring out the eight year old in everybody."

He said that is worth every penny. "I barely break even at the end of each month. My reward is seeing people smile, changing people's attitudes," Cocke said. "That's what makes it rewarding."

TheBubbleBug travels up to four hours from Louisville for corporate events and up to one hour for birthday parties. For more information, click here or call (502) 510-5958.
