KentuckyOne Health and local farmers partner to create South Points Food Collaborative

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Welcoming neighbors to the farm with a block party.

Dubbed the South Points Food Collaborative, a vacant field, once the Iroquois housing project, has been transformed into a 16-acre urban farm.

That farm is in the heart of the Hazelwood neighborhood in south Louisville.

Saturday's South Points Family Jam opened the farm to neighbors, giving them a first-hand look at the transformation.

The project is a collaboration of government, healthcare and non-profits.

KentuckyOne Health and local farmers are leasing almost 9 acres for a "farm to hospital table."

"We'll actually buy the food that's grown on a portion of this property and put it on the patient trays and the cafeteria plates at our hospitals including nearby Saints Mary and Elizabeth hospital," Alice Bridges, KentuckyOne Health, said.

Saturday's event featured hay rides, face and pumpkin painting, cider pressing, and healthy food cooking demonstrations.
