LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD homicide detectives are searching for suspects after a man was gunned down in broad daylight outside the Beecher Terrace housing complex over the weekend.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of West Court near 11th Street and Cedar Court. When officers arrived, they found the victim's body in a courtyard.

he historically violent complex has gone more than a year without a murder.

"There has been a lull in that type of activity where this type of things is happening," said LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell. "But whether it was last year or today, it's always unfortunate when a life is lost."

Community activist Christopher 2X says family members confirm the victim was Charles James Hill. The coroner also confirmed Hill's identity on Monday afternoon.

Neighbors say Hill lived at the complex.

Ebboni Johnson says "it's something you shouldn't have to deal with at all: having to have a mom come up here and identify a body on the ground."

Police say there were plenty of people around when the victim was shot, so they're hoping someone who saw something will come forward.

"I would hate to think that there were this many people in the area and nobody knows anything," Mitchell said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 574-LMPD. All calls are anonymous.
