The current unrest at U of L has raised many hard questions – both within the university community and the city and state at large. But hard facts about the situation have been difficult to come by.
My feeling is that, during the first half of his tenure, James Ramsey was a good President for U of L, a man with excellent intentions and impressive results.
But somewhere along the line, I think he lost control of the culture and maybe even bent a few rules to favor himself and his inner circle.
I know that sounds bad, and it is, if true – but we don’t really know.
We do know that some large and questionable bonuses have been paid to a chosen few in mysteriously quiet ways. After speaking with others closer to the situation, there are also at least some concerns of misappropriation of funds and even the possibility of fraud.
What’s undeniable though, is that all this cloak and dagger secrecy needs to stop.
U of L needs to be transparent and cooperative with the forensic audit of the Foundation. Only by shining a bright light on all these things that some would prefer be kept in the dark, will we ever learn the real truth, and finally be able to put this whole situation behind us once and for all.
