LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Citing "inappropriate and unprofessional behavior," Greater Louisville Inc. banned a metro councilman from all its future events.

GLI says Dan Johnson, a Democrat for District 21, is no longer welcome.

Metro Council President David Yates says he was contacted by the group following a trip to Austin, Texas. Yates says a GLI employee was offended by comments made by Johnson during that trip.

WDRB reached out to both parties involved.

GLI released two statements Wednesday, saying:

“This is a private matter that GLI has dealt with internally.  Councilman Johnson is no longer welcome to attend GLI events.”

“As has now been reported, an individual is no longer welcome at future GLI events.  Inappropriate or unprofessional behavior and comments are never welcome at GLI events.   Protecting and respecting our staff’s privacy has been our  main concern.  GLI took strong and appropriate action when we learned of this specific incident and consider the matter closed as it relates to our organization.”

And Councilman Johnson released his own statement, saying:

“It is certainly not in my character to be offensive, so I do apologize if I came across that way in Austin. GLI has not contacted me personally about any incident during the Austin trip. At the time, was not aware that my words were offensive to anyone. I wish someone had brought this to my attention a month ago so I could have apologized. I will honor GLI’s request so now that this has been settled, it’s time for all of us to move forward."
