A 15-year-old Danville girl has been indicted for murder in the death of her stepmother.
DANVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 15-year-old Kentucky girl has been indicted in the murder of her stepmother.
Police say 52-year-old Rhonda Oakley was found murdered in the family's Danville home on Sept. 1. Her body was discovered by her stepson when he returned from school. Now Oakley's stepdaughter, Jenna Oakley, is facing charges.
According to the indictment that was handed down on Oct. 20, Jenna Oakley is charged with murder and theft by unlawful taking.
Jenna Oakley was reported missing after her stepmother's body was found. Police caught up with her on Sept. 3 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. She was in the driver's seat of her stepmother's stolen car in the parking lot of a Motel 6. Her 20-year-old boyfriend Kenneth Nigh was in the car, as well.
Nigh was charged with possessing stolen property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The sheriff in Quay County, New Mexico says shortly after Nigh's arrest, he tried to hang himself in his jail cell. His injuries were so severe, he was taken to a hospital in Texas where he was placed on a ventilator.
On Friday afternoon, the Quay County Sheriff confirmed Nigh had died but said he could not comment on any specifics.
