JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- A Jeffersonville gas station employee is recovering after being shot during a robbery.
Jeffersonville Police Sergeant Isaac Parker said officers were called to reports of a robbery with shots fired at the Marathon gas station on Hamburg Pike near Dutch Lane about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
When police arrived, they found an employee with a gunshot wound.
On Monday, clerks said their fellow employee is doing okay, and they have turned surveillance video of the shooting over to police.
Steven Peterson has lived across from the gas station for most of his life and remembers when it only had two pumps. He said this is not the first time the store has been robbed.
"One time I came out, and there was a police officer out here,” said Parker. “He asked if I'd seen anybody. And it was the same thing – somebody had robbed the gas station."
Stanley Mark Harris also lives nearby. He said he’s hoping neighbors will stick together and look out for one another.
"That's not the first time it's happened here,” said Harris. “Second time. My father's 84, Korean War veteran. We live right here. And if they can do that over here at the store, what's stopping them from coming over to our house and doing the same? I expect us neighbors to stick together. Take care of us, we'll take care of you.”
Police have not yet said whether there are any suspects in this case. But Sgt. Parker said detectives were going through surveillance video on Monday.
