LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville law school welcomed a Supreme Court Justice to town to receive its highest honor.

Justice Elena Kagan received the Brandeis Medal on Monday.

It's a tribute to Louisville native and former Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis. The award is given to people who champion the same ideals Brandeis stood for, including concern for the disadvantaged and public service.

"I think if you take out all the people I've actually known, take them out, and then I think he is my favorite," Justice Kagan said of Brandeis. "There is a kind of wisdom and prescience that really does separate him from all but a very few justices."

Kagan was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2010. She occupies the same seat on the court that Justice Brandeis once did.
