LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – Cole Hikutini tried to pull a Lamar Jackson last Saturday against NC State.
Let’s just say things didn’t turn out as it famously as it did for Jackson in week 2 against Syracuse.
With the Cardinals driving in the second quarter Saturday against the Wolfpack, the Louisville tight end tried to hurdle over a defender standing in his way. As Hikutini explained Monday, that’s when things went wrong.
“I was running and I thought he was going to go low and he didn’t think the same,” recalled Hikutini, a senior.
Rather than hurdle over the defense, Hikutini was stopped and nearly dropped on his head. He admitted his teammates had a laugh at the play watching it the following day on film.
“We’ve re-run it a couple times. (They’ve asked) ‘What are you doing?’ It is what it is?
In fairness to Hikutini he did try this same move last year against Virginia and it worked in spectacular fashion. He says he would try the move again only if his defender went low.
The 5th ranked Cardinals visit the Cavs Saturday.
