San Pedro woman accused of trying to import heroin through Louisville International Airport
She allegedly poured perfume into her purse in an effort to mask the smell of drugs.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities say a San Pedro, California, woman was arrested at Louisville International Airport after heroin was found in her purse.
According to an arrest report, it happened Friday, just before 4:30 p.m. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Celena Christina Smith was stopped at the airport after a K9 signaled an alert on her luggage. Smith allegedly agreed to allow officers to search her luggage, but not her purse.
The dog, however, indicated the presence of drugs in her purse.
At this point, authorities say Smith became "verbally abusive" and began pouring perfume in her purse "to conceal the odor of narcotics."
After searching the purse, authorities allegedly found about 20 small bags of suspected heroin.
Smith was arrested and charged with importing heroin, aggravated trafficking in a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence. She is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
