Interstate work in Northern Ky. this weekend will cause delays

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Separate projects on Interstates 71 and 75 in northern Kentucky this weekend are expected to cause significant traffic delays. 

Details of the projects are below:

BOONE COUNTY
I-71 Bridge over I-75 interchange (76.7 milepost) - A bridge deck restoration and concrete overlay project is in progress on the I-71 Bridge over I-75 in Boone County. Traffic on the northbound bridge will be restricted to one lane until Nov. 15. Significant delays may occur when lane restrictions are in place. 

Motorists should watch for stopped traffic. 

Beginning Friday, Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. the I-75 North to I-71 South ramp will be CLOSED until Monday, Oct. 31 at 5 a.m. Motorists should follow the signed detour to KY 338 (Richwood Road) interchange.

KENTON COUNTY
I-71/I-75 NB (184.7 – 186.9 mile-marker) – An interstate rehabilitation project is in progress on I-71/I-75 from the I-275 interchange to just south of US 25 (Exit 188). The northbound direction is open with two lanes and the contraflow lane (total of 3). The entrance ramp from KY 236 (Donaldson Road) to I-75 NB is closed until approximately Oct. 31.

Access to I-275 from Donaldson will remain open. 

The speed limit is 45 MPH in the northbound work zone. If motorists are involved in a fender bender situation, please proceed to a clear and safe area and contact local law enforcement. Crews will be removing the old northbound pavement and replacing it with new concrete pavement. Additional delays can be expected throughout the remainder of the construction season. Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.  

The completion date for this project is December 2016. Work is weather dependent.

I-275 EB (Exit 84) –The I-275 EB ramp to I-71/75 NB is restricted to a single lane.  Delays can be expected when restrictions are in place.  Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic back-ups, traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.  Work is weather dependent.

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Oct. 28 (Friday night), traffic will be reduced to one lane NB for a traffic switch. The lane restrictions will be in place continuously until the work is complete. Traffic will be restored to 3 NB lanes by 6 a.m. Oct. 31 (Monday morning).

Once lanes are back in their original configuration, KY 236 (Donaldson Road) entrance ramp to I-75 NB will also re-open. Short-term intermittent ramp closures may be encountered during overnight hours on the ramps from I-275 to I-75 NB and the exit and entrance ramps at Buttermilk Pike. 

Drivers should exercise extreme caution and watch for traffic control devices, flaggers, construction personnel and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.  Long delays can be expected.  Drivers should consider alternate routes.
