MOUNT WASHINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) – The owner of Donut King on Highway 44 was “assaulted at work” and “has very severe injuries,” according to a post Wednesday on the store’s Facebook page.

“My dad has and is still showing me how a man should be. He puts others before himself, he’s hardworking, loyal, honest, and giving. This morning he was assaulted at work. He has very severe injuries. Prayers, best wishes, and positive vibes welcome. Thank you.”

Detective Dan Kelty with the Mount Washington Police Department says the owner – identified by family as Simon Yeung -- was shot twice in the head around 1 a.m. Wednesday outside of the shop.

It appeared nothing was taken from the business. Kelty is not commenting on whether this attack is believed to be random or if Yeung was targeted. He is also not saying who made the call to 911, but he says the call was likely placed within 15 minutes of the shooting.

“We’re unclear on a motive,” said Kelty. “We are currently reviewing video surveillance from local businesses in the area to gather suspect information.”

Police are asking for the public’s help locating a car caught on surveillance video driving away from the scene around the time of the attack. It’s believed to be a four-door, late-model, light-colored Ford Focus.

“It just makes absolutely no sense to me why this happened,” said Marilyn Young who works at the business next to Yeung’s. “I want justice to be brought forth and served on both of them. I just want peace in this community again.”

Yeung’s family says Donut King is closed “until further notice.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Mount Washington Police Department at (502) 538-8143.
