LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Oldham County man is accused of trying to kill his own father over an argument about a car.

According to an arrest report, it happened just after 1 a.m. Thursday at a home on Clore Avenue, near Jericho Road, in La Grange, Kentucky.

La Grange Police say 20-year-old Jeremy Smith got into an argument with his dad over Smith's use of his father's car. Smith's father claims that, after the argument, Smith tried to lure him into the back yard, but instead, Smith's father became "suspicious" and got into his car to leave.

At that point, police say Smith ran behind the house, got a .45 caliber handgun and shouted, "I'm going to shoot you, and shoot your tires out!"

Smith then "attempted to murder" his dad by firing off a shot at him from the driveway, according to police. Police say the round traveled northeast, in the direction of homes on Jericho Road.

Officers were unable to determine exactly where the bullet impacted.

According to the arrest report, police found the gun -- which was loaded and chambered -- outside the house. They also allegedly found several bullets on Smith's bed.

Smith was arrested and charged with attempted murder and first degree wanton endangerment. He is currently being held in the Oldham County Detention Center.
