Computershare to add 850 more jobs in Louisville

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Computershare, a business services firm based in Australia, plans a much larger presence in Louisville than the company first announced in September 2014.

Computershare now plans to add 1,100 jobs in Louisville – up from the company’s initial estimate of 250 -- according to state documents.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority on Thursday approved a sweetened offer of public subsidies for Computershare based on the increased job projection and an increase in the average pay those jobs will provide.

Computershare has already taken up residence in Meidinger Tower, a downtown office building once plagued by high vacancies.

The company performs corporate services like administering employee share and benefit plans, handling class-action settlements and bankruptcies, and providing investor relations for publicly traded companies, according to its website.

Computershare raised its projected average pay for the Louisville jobs to $30 an hour –  up from $20. But that figure includes the value of employee benefits like health insurance in addition to wages.

The company is now eligible to receive subsidies of up to $13.2 million from the state and Metro government  -- up from $2.5 million when Computershare first sought approval in 2014.

The subsidies will be doled out at a maximum of $1.32 million a year for 10 years.

Computershare did not respond to a request for comment.
