LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One of Louisville's most iconic apartment buildings is celebrating a complete makeover.

Thursday marked the official unveiling of the 800 Tower City Apartments, formerly known as the 800 Building, on South Fourth Street.

The 29-story building that was Louisville's tallest when it opened in 1963 has undergone a year-long, $11 million renovation.

Every apartment is being overhauled, and there are several new additions like a Sky Club, a fitness center, a rooftop Sky Park with a swimming pool and a bark park.

Officials say this is just part of a major effort to bring new life to the downtown area.

"We really do think that downtown, even as soon as 2018, will be entirely transformed," said Rebecca Matheny, Executive Director of the Louisville Downtown Partnership. "It's amazing. We have about 46 active projects that are going to be happening over the next 24 to 36 months. It's just an enormous opportunity, and it's really an exciting time to do things downtown."

The building will also have an Italian restaurant called Bar Vetti, which will open this winter.
