Southern Indiana gun store sales soar during election year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Fox News believes the upcoming presidential election is helping gun sales, and merchandise is moving at record rate at a southern Indiana store.

Allen Edwards, the owner of Gun World in Corydon, says since the first presidential debate in September, sales have nearly doubled. Edwards adds that 2016 will indeed be record year for his store in overall sales of guns and ammunition.

Sales taking off did not sneak up on the staff, though. They say they saw this coming.

"We have been planning on this now for most of the year and been buying to have stock available, because I think a lot of people are concerned about what the election means," Edwards said.

To put things in perspective, numbers from the FBI show that background checks this year are on pace to smash the previous record of 23.1 million set in 2015.

Republican candidate Donald Trump has the backing of the NRA, while Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is calling for strict gun control. No matter who ends up in the oval office, Gun World says they will stay locked and loaded.

"What happens is going to happen, and we have to take it in stride," Gun World employee Megan Praisler said. "There is not a whole lot we can do to stop what is coming for us."

As mentioned, the first presidential debate between Clinton and Trump in September sparked gun sales. The FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System went through almost 2 million checks in that very same month.
