Central H.S. student receives YMCA character award for his efforts to promote peace

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Central High School student on a mission to promote peace in Louisville has won another award for his outstanding character.

Jonathan Neal was one of 14 students honored at the Greater Louisville YMCA Youth Character Awards. Each of the students received $1,500 scholarships.

Neal started volunteering at the age of 12 with the Southwest Family YMCA Daycare.

Last year, Neal won a Jefferson Award from WDRB after the young leader started a group called "All Lives Matter." Neal says he felt compelled to better his community after teen violence in downtown Louisville.

The Jefferson Award celebrates positive change and selfless public service.
