LEXINGTON, KY. (WDRB) – Talk about a 180.
One month ago there were Wildcat fans that wanted to see UK head coach Mark Stoops fired. Now those same Wildcat fans are showing up at the airport to greet him after big wins.
“You want to deliver for those fans that have been starving for a long time to have a successful football program,” said Stoops. “And believe me, we work every day around the clock to do that for them.”
It appears for Kentucky (5-3, 4-2 SEC), the hard work is finally starting to pay off. UK has won 5 of 6. A win Saturday over Georgia (4-4, 2-4 SEC) would make them bowl eligible for the first time since 2010.
“Every football team morphs or evolves into what they are, and I think we’ve done a nice job of finding what we can do well and what our players can handle on both sides,” said Stoops.
And both sides should be tested this weekend once again when UGA comes to Commonwealth Stadium. The Bulldogs have dropped two straight and Stoops expects them to come out determined to get back on track.
“They’re very good defensively. It’s a very talented football team,” said Stoops. “We say it every year. They are an absolutely good looking bunch.”
The Wildcats are looking for their fifth SEC win of the season. If they beat the Bulldogs it will be the first time they’ve achieved that mark since 1977.
Kickoff is 7:30 Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
