LG&E, KU announce $2.2 billion investment to reduce power outages

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company are investing $2.2 billion in their electric and natural gas system to improve safety, reduce outage times and enhance service to customers.

The two companies have announced a planned investment into new technology that would detect when and where outages occur. Currently, restoring electricity requires manual inspections.

LG&E and KU plan to request approval from the Kentucky Public Service Commission to install the technology.

If the plan is approved, the bill for the average LG&E customer would increase by more than nine dollars.
