LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Every game counts this week. Two weeks after the high school playoffs began in Indiana, post-season play starts in Kentucky this weekend.

Unbeaten Trinity remains the favorite in Class 6A as well as the unanimous Number One team in the WDRB High School Football Top 10.

But there was a surprising change in the second position. St. Xavier slipped from second to third after the Tigers lost at Cincinnati St. Xavier, 28-3.

Coach Will Wolford’s team was overtaken by Male, even though St. X beat the Bulldogs, 31-21, Oct. 14.

St. X was ranked ahead of Male on four ballots — Tom Lane, John Lewis, Rick Bozich and the MaxPreps composite rankings. But Katie George, Mike Lacett and Eric Crawford all favored Male.

The biggest winner in this week’s poll was Shelby County. The Rockets surged from 12th to ninth after defeating unbeaten South Oldham.

Here are the results from this week’s voting.

1. Trinity (10-0, 70 points, 7 first-place votes) — The Shamrocks could post their fourth consecutive shutout when they begin pursuit of the 6A title against visiting (2-8) Ohio County Friday.

2. Male (8-2, 59 points) — After handling Manual and Western, the Bulldogs begin defense of their state title against 6-4 Daviess County.

3. St. Xavier (7-3, 57 points) — The Tigers’ loss to Cincinnati St. Xavier was their third defeat by at least three touchdowns. St. X hosts Muhlenberg County (7-3).

4. Manual (8-2, 49 points) — The Crimson bounced back from their rivalry loss to Male with a three-touchdown win over Eastern. Their playoff schedule opens with a trip to Henderson County (3-7).

5. Christian Academy (9-1, 43 points) — Few teams are hotter than the Centurions, who have rolled over nine straight opponents. They host 1-9 Green County Friday.

6. DeSales (8-2, 28 points) — The Colts will chase their fourth consecutive shutout when Monroe County (3-7) visits.

7. Pleasure Ridge Park (6-4, 22 points) — After a surprisingly easy win against Central, the Panthers visit talented McCracken County (7-3) Friday.

8. Brownstown (Ind.) Central (10-1, 20 points) — To win their 3A sectional, the Braves must win on the road against another 10-1 team, Southridge.

9. Shelby County (8-2, 13 points) — The Rockets ride the momentum off their victory over South Oldham into a home playoff game with 2-win Breckinridge County.

10. Ballard (7-3, 10 points) — After handling Doss last week, the Bruins start the playoffs at home against Meade County, which has lost six straight.
