Students at The Brown School hold mock voting for U.S. Presidential Election
They're too young to vote officially, but that didn't stop some JCPS students.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- They're too young to vote officially, but that didn't stop some JCPS students.
Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes helped students at The J. Graham Brown School cast their mock votes at school on Thursday. It was part of an awards ceremony for the school for having 100 percent of eligible students registered to vote.
Grimes says its important to get people interested in voting at an early age.
"This is what civic engagement is all about," Grimes said. "The earlier you reach students, the more likely they are to develop that habit and to know that it's not just a right it's a privilege."
Polls open for registered voters Tuesday at 6 a.m.
