State-of-the-art Crowne Pointe Theatre coming to Elizabethtown

Posted: Updated:

Neighbors in Elizabethtown say they agree they need a new movie theater.

“Most definitely,” Elizabethtown resident Will Rivera said. “We needed one for a while. We have one here in town. It's done its job, but I think an updated one is a good thing this town needs."

“It's so crowded over there when a new movie comes in, and you have to wait in line or they're all sold out,” Elizabethtown resident Jennifer Murphy said.

Both Rivera and Murphy say they drive 20 minutes to Radcliff or 50 minutes to Louisville to see a movie. That's why retired surgeon and owner of Robbins Enterprises, Dr. Robert Robbins, is building a state-of- the-art movie theater on a vacant lot he's owned for about 30 years.

“It should be really first-class,” Robbins said.

The Crowne Pointe Theatre will have nine screens and will be the largest theater in the region, outside of Louisville. Robbins compares it to the Xscape Theaters.

“We want to have a nice theater, and I think we are going to have something that we are very proud of down here, Robbins said.

It will have an option for 3D movies, reclining seats, a game room and a bar.

“You can order your food, and they'll bring it to your seat, so I'm excited about that,” Rivera said.

As for the smaller movie theater already in town, Robbins says there's enough business for both of them. He's not trying to run it out of business.

“It could, but we're not trying to do that," he said. "I just want to have something that's really good for this community."

The Crowne Pointe Theatre will break ground on Dec. 15, and it's scheduled to be open in the fall of next year.
