LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Rick Pitino wanted more tempo and more offense. He got it in the University of Louisville’s first exhibition game of the season, a 109-71 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan before a crowd of 15,836 at the KFC Yum! Center Thursday night.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 20-point lead in the first 10 minutes, then didn’t get further separation until redshirt freshman Ryan McMahon heated up from the outside with 14 points in a 9-minute stretch in the second half that put the Cards up by 28 with 8:26 left.

Louisville shot 60 percent for the game, including 53 percent from three-point range (9-17). The Cardinals also outscored KWC 11-0 on the fast break and 29-12 off turnovers.

Playing for the first time since last December, Louisville senior Mangok Mathiang had 7 points and 5 rebounds in 13 minutes.

The Cardinals were led in scoring by Deng Adel, who had 16 points and seven rebonds. Jaylen Johnson had 16 points on 6-for-6 shooting and six rebounds. Quentin Snider finished with 14 points and Donovan Mitchell had 11.

Next up for the Cards is an exhibition against Bellarmine at the KFC Yum! Center on Monday night.
