Volunteers help residents in need get their homes ready for winter with Project Warm Blitz

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Believe it or not, winter is just around the corner.

To help prepare, community groups are getting homes ready for the cold weather.

This weekend and next, more than 500 volunteers will help low-income, elderly, and disabled residents "weatherize" more than 250 homes in the area.

It's called Project Warm Blitz.

"They will help to put up plastic around the windows, to caulk cracks, do all these things that help these homes stay more energy efficient so the residents can keep the cold out, keep the heat in, and better manage their energy use," said Natasha Collins with LG&E.

The hundreds of volunteers come from LG&E, as well as local schools, churches, and community organizations.
