LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local brewery is releasing a brand new beer this month.

Falls City Beer says rye isn't just for whiskey anymore; it's the new key ingredient in the Red Rye Lager.

The seasonal lager is the newest brew to the Falls City Beer family, in addition to the Pale Ale, the Hipster IPA and the Kentucky Common Beer. Red Rye Lager is described as spicy and malty.

Dylan Greenwood, the Master Brewer at Falls City says the combination of caraway and rye has been used in rye bread for years, but the combination is new to the beer scene.

“I wanted something that was a winter beer that wasn't overly alcoholic or overly spiced. So it's still drinkable at 4.5 percent alcohol, but it has the spiciness of the rye with a little bit of caraway," said Greenwood.

You can find it at most local bars and beer stores including Kroger.
