LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Democratic Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo has issued a statement conceding the race for Kentucky's 95th House District to opponent Larry Brown.

Brown won the race in an upset, according to the Associated Press.

"The voters have spoken, so I want to congratulate Larry Brown for his win tonight, and I want to thank the people of the 95th House District for a great career," Stumbo, said in a written statement. "I hope only the best for the district, my county, my commonwealth, and my country."

Republican Legislative Campaign Committee President Matt Walter also issued a statement:

"Today, voters in eastern Kentucky said loudly and clearly that they were ready for change and ready for a leader who will put Kentucky’s interests over Washington’s. After three decades in elected office, they have had enough of career politician Speaker Greg Stumbo who aligns more closely with Washington Democrats than he does his own constituents. Eastern Kentucky deserves a representative who will push back on the Obama/Clinton war on coal, not advocate for Obama’s values and Clinton’s crusade to put coal miners out of business. They deserve a leader like Larry Brown, who is ready to put the needs of his community first and fight to bring jobs back to the area while advancing smarter, conservative governing in Frankfort. We look forward to the changes that are in store in the Kentucky House following the voters’ decision tonight in House District 95, and we congratulate Larry Brown on his victory."
