LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- For the first time in 95 years, the Republican party has taken control of the Kentucky state house.

The Kentucky House was the last legislative chamber in the south controlled by Democrats.

"The voters of Kentucky have been heard," Gov. Matt Bevin said Tuesday night. "They want a new direction."

Gov. Bevin was joined onstage by newly-elected Speaker of the House, Jeff Hoover.

"Tonight, history has been made in the Commonwealth of Kentucky," Hoover said.

Everyone on stage at the Galt House in downtown Louisville were wearing reds hats that said "#newmajority".
