RAW VIDEO | Republican Trey Hollingsworth gives acceptance speech after winning race for Indiana US House District 9

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Republican Trey Hollingsworth has won the race for Indiana's U.S. House District 9, according to the Associated Press.

The race for Indiana U.S. House District 9 was contentious at times, with Democrat Shelli Yoder attacking Hollingsworth's roots outside Indiana and Hollingsworth calling Yoder's brand of politics "evil."

"I truly believe, and I hope that you agree with me, that the Nancy Pelosi politics, the Hillary Clinton politics, the Shelli Yoder politics are evil," Hollingsworth said during a public event.

Hollingsworth later refused to back down when asked if he really thinks Yoder's policies are evil.

"I do. I see them continuing to erode the values that matter most to Americans," Hollingsworth told WDRB.

Yoder’s campaign manager issued the following statement in response:

"Tennessee Trey is in trouble because Hoosiers are rejecting his attempt to buy a Congressional seat meant for a Hoosier. This race is tied and he's reaching for help from Washington politicians. After Tennessee Trey and his Dad spending millions, the last thing Hoosiers need is more outsiders involved in his campaign."

Hollingsworth grew up in Clinton, Tenn., and moved to Jeffersonville, Ind., shortly before launching his Congressional bid. The Associated Press reported last week that Hollingsworth is legally bound to live in five different states -- but not Indiana -- to properly represent his companies.

Yoder is member of the Monroe County Council.
