OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- When Denny Woods left work in Louisville on Tuesday night, he got into the back seat of his brother’s truck and the two began their usual drive home to Henry County.

The two pulled up to a stoplight, and Woods says his brother noticed another driver who appeared to be riding his bumper.

When they got to Ballardsville, shots were fired from that car.

“The bullet literally came in the back window, maybe two inches from my head,” Woods said. “We didn’t know where the next shot was gonna land. All we could hear was pop, pop, pop, pop, you know, behind us.”

Additional shots were fired while Woods was on the phone with 911.

“All we could do is just literally lay down in the seats and hope that we didn’t get hit again,” Woods said. “He shot at us probably five to six times, but he only hit us the once -- the very first shot.”

Woods says his brother was able to drive them to safety. No one in the truck was hurt.

The accused gunman Norman Dick, 35, was arrested around 2 a.m. Wednesday at a strip club in downtown Louisville.

He’s charged with five counts of attempted murder.

According to Oldham County Police, Dick also shot at a car on I-71 and a third car along Highway 393 injuring two people including a child.

“I’m a beast in the streets. I don’t need weapons though,” Dick said to WDRB in an exclusive interview from the Oldham County Detention center. “I don’t shoot people.”

Dick called himself a “farm boy” and a “law-abiding citizen.” He says police have the wrong guy.

“This sounds like a blood storm just came down 71, and I’m led to believe I’m the thunder and lightning,” Dick said. “This isn’t the civil war. This isn’t Iraq or Afghanistan where our soldiers are over there fighting.”

Police say they are sure they have their gunman.

According to an arrest report, “officers conducted a recorded phone interview” with Dick where he “admitted to shooting people in Oldham County” and firing shots along Westport Road in Louisville.

Dick is expected in court on Monday.
