LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In September officials announced Kosair Children's Hospital's name would change to Norton Children's Hospital, and now it's official.
Kosair Charities and Norton Healthcare split up in August after the two parties settled a two-year lawsuit. Crews began replacing the old signs with signs reflecting the new name Thursday morning.
The names of other Norton Healthcare facilities serving children have also changed, including Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital (in St. Matthews), Norton Children’s Medical Center and Norton Children’s Medical Associates (physician practices).
The hospital and pediatric services have been a part of Norton Healthcare for nearly 50 years, and will continue its mission of caring for, healing and serving children and families in this community.
"Nothing else is changing," said Maggie Roetker. "You know children are at the heart at what we do and Norton Children's Hospital is going to continue to provide the same care, healing, and the service to children in our community that they know and expect."
The Norton Healthcare Board of Trustees selected the name Norton Children’s Hospital after several rounds of research involving the local community and surrounding areas, as well as Norton Healthcare employees.
Norton Children's is the only freestanding children's hospital in Kentucky.
