GEORGE | Collins looks to upset Shelby County in rival playoff game

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – In the second round of the playoffs familiar foes will meet Friday night. WDRB’s Game of the Week takes place in Shelby County where the Rockets will host the Collins Titans.

The two teams met in the regular season just a month ago. Collins didn’t get the result it wanted falling 39-6 at home. Now, a week into the playoffs the Titans hope to survive and advance with better execution and a new game plan.

“We played Shelby during the regular season and the bottom line was they beat us pretty good so we're going to have to raise our level of game. Obviously, our kids are excited about it, excited about the opportunity,” said Collins’ head coach Jerry Lucas.

“You know we're in the second round so you're down to 16 teams in 4A and we're one of those teams so we're excited to be able to play in this game. We're playing against our cross town rival so it's a big game.”

Just miles down the road, Shelby County is riding a home winning streak and they’ll try to keep that streak alive Friday. The Rockets rolled the Titans early on but they are not over confident going into the playoff game.

“You go back and look and film and they're probably more motivated than we would be because you look at the game itself but we have to come out and play because both teams are looking, we're looking to go to region for the regional championship and we can't have a lack luster practice or bad game,” said Shelby County head coach Todd Shipley.

Kickoff is set for 7:30pm at Shelby County High School.
