Louisville veteran presented with service dog from Dogs Helping Heroes

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville veteran now has a new four-legged companion.

Two-tour veteran Nathan Warner worked with Dogs Helping Heroes to find his perfect service dog. The non-profit helps find and train dogs for military veterans and first responders who have suffered injuries or have PTSD.

On Veterans Day, Warner got to meet his new furry best friend before walking in the Veterans Day Parade in Louisville.

"I really didn't expect him to be here, but that shows the power of the dog," said Dogs Helping Heroes Executive Director David Benson. "The power of the dog got him out in public already -- the first time we've even placed the dog with him. It's absolutely amazing."

So far, Dogs Helping Heroes have found service dogs for eight veterans.
