Veterans Home in Harrods Creek honored with historic marker

Posted: Updated:

HARRODS CREEK, Ky. (WDRB) -- Honoring our veterans with a special service just one day after Veterans Day in Harrods Creek.

That's where a historic marker was dedicated at the first Kentucky Veterans Home for Union Civil War veterans.

Veterans would go there when they could no longer care for themselves.

"We need to remember all of our veterans. Many of them are just forgotten for whichever war they fought in. So It's very important for us to keep their memory alive," Bob Jones said.

The Veterans Home in Harrods Creek opened in 1891.

It was home to 25 veterans, but was only open for a few years.
