POLICE: Louisville man hit woman in the head with baseball bat and metal rod

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a Louisville man charged with assault and burglary after police say he hit a female victim in the head with a baseball bat and metal rod.

Robert Collett, 36, was arrested Friday in the 5000 block of Saxon Boulevard, near Shepherdsville Road, according to an official police report.

Authorities say officers responded to a report of a home invasion.

Investigators say when police arrived, officers saw Collett "in the rear of the location still armed with a metal rod."

Police say Collett allegedly entered the home by breaking down a door.

According to police, Collett, "caused serious physical injury to (the) victim." The police report says the victim stated Collett hit her in the head several times with a baseball bat and again with a metal rod.

EMS workers say the victim, "suffered an impression to the back of the head as well as swelling to the face."

Collett is being held on a $50,000 cash bond and is expected in court on Nov. 22.
